Rooted formerly known as GROW
Our Wednesday evening programming will now be called “Rooted”. This will help us to emphasize the roots that grow when we focus on community, the roots that grow when we focus on the Word, and the roots that grow when we focus on Christ.
We will still have our meals at 5:30 p.m. (more details to come about that). Then our evening will continue with worship and praise at 6:15 p.m. and classes that begin at 6:30 p.m.
We will start off with three class offerings:
- Pastor David will lead a small group that will read through the Bible in a year (we might take a bit longer). We will follow a guide called “The Grand Sweep” by J. Ellsworth Kalas, and Pastor David will have guides available. Because of the nature of this group we will limit the size to 12 people. If you would like to participate, contact me! ( (615) 210-3586 or David.johnson@cnumc.org or).
- Ben Harrell will also be leading studies through the year, beginning with a study on the book of James with resources by Francis Chan. Zoom option available.
- Karen Frutchey Snyder is organizing a women’s study that will be exploring several familiar stories of women in the Bible. We will read together from Scripture to gain further insight from the actual stories. Then have discussions about what these women’s stories mean for modern times and in our lives as women of faith. We intend to start with Eve.
May our church, our community, and our lives continue to be “Rooted” in Christ and in the Word.

What is Rooted?
Rooted is what we call our Wednesday evening gatherings. It serves as a reminder that we are rooted in community, rooted in the Word, and we are rooted in Christ. It is an opportunity to eat together, worship together, and learn together. We join together for a meal at 5:30 p.m. Then, around 6:15 p.m., we head to the Great Room of the Ministry Center for a few worship songs and prayer, then at 6:30 p.m. we break into smaller study groups. During this fall season, Pastor David will lead 8-12 folks through a study called “The Grand Sweep” which will read the bible in a year. Ben Harrell will lead a study on the book of James including some resources by Francis Chan. And Karen Snyder will be leading a study for women based on the women of the bible. We look forward to seeing you there!
Cooking for Rooted Nights
Volunteers Needed!
One of the best ways to feed our souls is to ensure that our bodies are also fed. Each Wednesday night at Rooted we have a meal at 5:30 p.m. We ask for volunteers to plan the meal and cook the dinner of their choice. The meals can be simple soups and salad, or sandwiches and dessert. They need to be prepared for 30-40 people. The meals are often prepared in the Fellowship Hall kitchen but can also be prepared at home and brought to the church.
The church provides plates, utensils, etc. and someone takes them home to wash them. The church has funds to cover the cost of the meal (you are not expected to shoulder the burden). If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Martin in the church office (916) 684-2033.
