Holy Week Schedule

This is the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey to shouts of Hosanna, palm branches waving, and being hailed as a king. Jesus is indeed a king, but not the king the people expected.

We will celebrate at Elk Grove United Methodist Church. The service begins at 6:00 p.m. and you are invited to bring bread or dried fruit to share at the table. This is the night that Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples – setting up what we call Holy Communion. It is also the night that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, before heading to the Garden of Gethsemane where he was arrested.

This is the day Christ is sentenced to death and crucified. It is called “Good” because in his death Christ displays God’s love and mercy for us. We will have a Tenebrae (meaning darkness) service again this year. This requires many readers. If you are available to read, please contact Pastor David. Throughout the service, the room will grow darker, as the light of the world is extinguished. Service will be livestreamed

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday, April 3rd, we will hold a prayer vigil in Hein 1. Folks will be asked to sign up for a half an hour time slot for every half hour until our Sunrise Service at 6:00 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5th. Our stations will be based upon the parable of the soils (Matthew 13, Mark 4, Luke 6). We will have opportunity for prayer, music, journaling, and other creative ways to connect to God. Signups for timeslots will be available during Sunday services or you can contact Ben Harrell.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the events and services listed above.
