Ministries : Small Groups

The Point Pleasant UMC Small Groups Ministry invites you to check out our small groups listed below with links to individual web pages that provide details on many of the small groups forming at PPUMC, their activities and mission vision.

What do you get out of joining a Small Group?
First, there is the sense of belonging. God created relational beings when he created us. We need to be with others, to be supportive, and to care for each other. Some small groups have learning elements like Ladies Craft Group, BAM Men’s Cooking Group, The Quilter’s Frame, Visions in Progress, Disciple Bible Study and the Couples’ Teamwork group. Some small groups serve others like Handy People, other groups care for their members like Ramen, Single Parents group and the Women’s Issues group. Still others are belonging groups like Weekend Warriors Family Outdoor Fellowship, the Methodist Women Book Club and Adult Fellowship.

All Small groups have C B S -- Caring, Bible and Service; and their leaders have a vision of what the small group can do to share the goodness of God with others.

  • 8 x 8's Small Groups   ( 2 Articles )

8x8s are a group of 8 individuals, made up of couples and singles, which are committed to meet at least once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening for 8 months.  The group will meet in someone's home for dinner, a short devotional, and games.    The idea is to rotate homes.  Dinner can be as simple as pizza, soup or a potluck.  Someone from the group will take on planning the devotional (ideas can be provided), and another from the group can plan the games.  Basically it is a time set apart to have fellowship and get to know one another better!

Contact Linda Harrell or Michelle Barrett  or the church office for more information.

  • Body and Soul Small Group   ( 1 Article )

Are you someone who struggles with losing inches, toning muscle or connecting with God?

This is a "low impact" exercise class that can help you reach your physical goals while at the same time connecting with God.

Classes are held in the Fellowship Hall at the church every Tuesday from 7-8pm and Thursdays from 6-7pm.

DeAndrea Quinn is the group lead.

Contact the church office for more information.

  • Handy People   ( 0 Articles )

Are you good with your hands?    Would you like to learn new skills while helping others?

Handy People are men and women who are good with their hands and want to serve God by building, repairing and creating projects for those in our community who can not do it for themselves.

Jack Foster is in charge of this crew.

  • Quilting Frame   ( 0 Articles )

The Quilting Frame is looking for those who love colors and patterns; with a desire to give prayer and comfort to others. You must have a sewing machine. If you are looking for fun in creating quilts, discussing and sharing your faith and serving others…we might be a good fit. We will be meeting in the fellowship hall on the second Friday of the month from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

    Cindy Springer facilitates this group.

  • VIP's - Vision In Progress   ( 0 Articles )

Visions in Progress (VIP's) is a fun and informative photography small group that has taken a break, but will be starting again this spring in our new building. The format will be changing to allow individuals to pick and choose which 'workshops' they are interested in attending. Also, there will be occasional field-trips on weekends to practice the new learned skills.

  • Weekend Warriors   ( 0 Articles )

Is your life so hectic that you rarely seem to slow down, plan and really enjoy quality time as a family?  And wouldn't it be all that much more fun if the activities paid tribute to God's creation, honored our Lord's desire for us to provide service to others, and all in the company of good fellowship?  The Weekend Warriors small group plans regular outings for our families. As with all PPUMC small groups, Caring, Bible and Service are always central to our gatherings.  Family fellowship is our tool and God is our focus, always included through prayer, praise, conversation, art, game and/or theme.  Bike rides and a barbeque on the American River, picnics and pot lucks at the park, movie nights, concerts, snow trips, scavenger hunts, VBS sleepovers, marshmallow roasts and a sleeping bag drive for the homeless, and a day of service for Habitat for Humanity while the kids made and served lunch to workers have all been part of the fun and fellowship at Weekend Warriors - see you soon!
